Schoolchildren of East Kazakhstan region visited one of the largest hydroelectric power plants of the region

An open day was organized for high school students of East Kazakhstan region at one of the key enterprises of the regional center – Ust-Kamenogorsk Hydroelectric Power Plant.

A career guidance tour as part of the Year of Skilled Trades was a joint effort by Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region and the administration of AES Ust-Kamenogorsk HPP LLP. The main goal was to introduce young people to in-demand working professions, highlighting career prospects and allowing them to communicate directly with energy professionals. For future graduates, this was a real chance not only to see the inner work of power engineers, but also to consider future profession options.

– We organized this career guidance event for schoolchildren jointly with Higher Polytechnic College, with which we have been cooperating for five years as part of the Dual Education Program. Five graduates of this program are currently employed at our plant, and we are confident that among today’s visitors, there are future colleagues,” said Tlek Aidabulov, Director General of AES Ust-Kamenogorsk HPP LPP and AES Shulba HPP LLP.

A fruitful program was prepared for schoolchildren: a plant tour with visiting the powerhouse hall, familiarizing with modern equipment and electricity generation. They also met with the company’s staff. The specialists shared their career stories, experiences, and essential skills. The presentations by young specialists who have recently graduated from college and are now working at the Hydroelectric Power Plant were of particular interest. They shared their personal stories, talked about the first steps in the profession, career challenges and achievements.

Furthermore, an interactive quest game “Become a PROFI” was held for young visitors, where the children could test their skills in various technical fields (electronics, robotics and energy). Most active participants received valuable prizes (smart speakers, wireless headphones, etc.), as well as free training certificates at Ust-Kamenogorsk Higher Polytechnic College.

– The tour of the HPP was very informative, proving insights into the work of the plant. In the future, I am considering a profession in the electric power engineering industry due to its high demand and potential,” said Batyrkhan Kazez, a 9th grader of Secondary School No. 13 of Ust-Kamenogorsk city.

East Kazakhstan region is an industrial hub that requires skilled specialists in energy, mechanical engineering, metallurgy and other sectors. Such events help young people appreciate the importance of skilled trades and determine their future plans. Getting acquainted with real production environments, engaging in direct conversations with industry professionals, and participating in practical activities is the best way to motivate students to choose in-demand technical specialties.
