World Civil Defence Day – on March 1st

World Civil Defence Day, marked annually on March 1st, is observed in response to a call from the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), established in 1931. Over the years, the organization has been pursuing a targeted policy aimed at integrating global efforts in civil protection, creating systems for disaster response, and training qualified personnel. Currently, the IOGO unites around 70 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa.

Kazakhstan joined the IGO Charter on October 31, 1997, marking the country’s entry into international structures designed to coordinate emergency response efforts.

This day honors selfless people who risk their own lives to protect citizens from various threats.

The civil defense specialists are tasked not only with assisting the population during emergencies, but also eliminating the consequences of such events and educating the public about safety rules during such accidents.

A crucial aspect of civil defense is public education. Everyone should know how to act in case of natural disasters, technological catastrophes or other emergency situations. Training sessions, seminars, and information campaigns help people understand the risks and prepare for them. It’s not just a set of knowledge, but vital skills that can save lives.

Taking into account these factors, Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region, jointly with Head of Civil Defence Administration of Emergency Situations Department of East Kazakhstan region, Lieutenant Colonel D.O. Agazhayev and A.K. Kalymov, 4th-year cadet of M. Gabdullin Academy of Civil Defence, conducted a webinar for students of the region. The webinar featured video materials on this topic.

The officials of Emergency Situations Department of East Kazakhstan region introduced school students to all aspects of their profession, outlining the structure of civil protection, and explained how to act in various emergency situations.
