The 1st of March is more than just a date on the calendar; it symbolizes humanity’s unity and readiness to protect itself. World Civil Defense Day, celebrated on this day, serves as a reminder of the importance of preparing for emergencies and the need to be ready for unexpected challenges.
World Civil Defense Day was established in 1990 by the International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO). This day serves not only as an occasion for celebration, but also as a crucial opportunity to highlight the importance of civil protection, which covers a wide range of actions — from disaster prevention to providing aid to those affected.
A key aspect of civil defense is public education. Every individual must be aware of how to act in the event of a natural disaster, technological accident or any other emergency situations. Training sessions, workshops, and awareness-building campaigns help people understand the risks they face and prepare for them. It’s not just a set of knowledge, but vital skills that can save lives.
Based on the realities of the time, Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region, jointly with E. Tursyngaliyev, an officer of Emergency Situations Department of East Kazakhstan region, conducted a webinar for students of the region. The session included video materials on the topic of civil defense, aiming to raise awareness among the youth.
Civil defense is not only an individual responsibility, but also a collective effort. On this day, we must remember the importance of solidarity. Countries, organizations and communities should work together, sharing experiences and resources. Mutual assistance and cooperation are the foundations for building a safer world.
The 1st of March is a day when we can reflect on how we can contribute to the safety of society. It serves as a reminder that we all play an important role in civil defense. Let’s be ready, let’s be united, and let’s make this day a symbol of our determination to protect each other and build a safer future for all.
