Person. Winter. Danger.

Person. Winter. Danger.

Winter is not just about fun snowball fights and sledding, but it’s also a season when you need to be especially careful. After all, the cold weather brings with it many hidden dangers outside: icy sidewalks, icicles, icy roads and much more. So, let’s figure out how to avoid trouble and spend the winter fun and safe!

As the saying goes, “Forewarned is forearmed”. Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region, jointly with A.A. Baizhuminov, a senior officer of Emergency Situations Department of East Kazakhstan region, held an interactive webinar to warn students of the region about the dangers of the winter season.

Winter hazards and how to avoid them:

Ice sidewalks: Walk cautiously on slippery surfaces, taking small steps. If possible, use special anti-slip shoe covers

Icicles: Never walk under icicles, especially during a thaw. They can fall and cause serious injury.

Icy ponds: Never go onto the ice without adults! The ice can be unstable and may crack.

Winter sports: Sledding, skiing or ice skating is only necessary in specially designated areas. Keep an eye on other people and follow the safety rules.

Clothes and footwear: Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather. Warm clothes, hat, scarf and gloves will protect you from the cold. Don’t forget about the waterproof footwear.

Safety at home:

Heating devices: Be cautious with heaters. Never dry clothes near them and don’t leave them running unsupervised.

Electricity: Don't overload electrical outlets by plugging in multiple devices at once. This can cause short circuits or even fires.

What to do if you fall through the ice?

Don’t panic! Try to spread your arms wide on the ice and try to get out on the ice by rolling onto your stomach.

Crawl towards the bank. Move in that direction from which you came. The ice may be stronger there.

First aid for frostbite:

Warm the affected person by moving them to a warm place.

Take off your wet clothes.

Wrap the frostbitten areas of the body with a warm blanket or a dry cloth.

Don’t rub the frostbitten areas!

Call a doctor.

Winter is a wonderful time of the year, but it requires special care and awareness. By following these simple tips, you can avoid dangers and enjoy a safe and joyful winter!

Remember, your safety is in your hands!
