Boosting scientific literacy

In today's world, science and technology play a huge role across all aspects of life. Understanding the basics of natural sciences is crucial for effective adaptation to our ever-changing world. The development of scientific literacy is a vital skill, enabling people to better understand the world around them, analyze information, make informed decisions and find innovative approaches to solving problems.

Scientific literacy includes the ability to apply the fundamental principles of natural sciences - physics, chemistry, biology and other fields, to explain natural and technological phenomena. This skill fosters critical thinking, the ability to analyze data, and draw conclusions based on facts rather than opinions.

Understanding the principles of natural sciences helps people differentiate facts from myths, identify cause-and-effect relationships, assess risks and make informed decisions in everyday life. This skill is especially crucial in the age of information overload, when it is important to be able to filter and verify information from various sources.

Given the needs of the modern world, Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region, jointly with Aigul K. Orazbayeva, head of the Department of East Kazakhstan regional branch of Orleu National Centre for Professional Development JSC Institute for Professional Development of Educators, held a webinar to inform the participants of the key goals and methods of development scientific literacy.

Developing scientific literacy starts with the fundamentals. Learning basic principles of physics, chemistry, and biology can begin with simple concepts and gradually increasing complexity. It is important not only to memorize the facts, but also to understand their essence, to see the interconnections between various natural phenomena.

Reading books, watching popular science programs, and participating in scientific events and discussions also contribute to the development of scientific literacy. Interacting with scientists and engaging in scientific experiments and research provide a deeper understanding of the principles of science and their practical application.

The development of scientific literacy is an investment in the future, yielding both short-term and long-term benefits.
