Creating PISA test questions for developing scientific literacy in chemistry lessons

Preparing for the PISA International study (Program for International Student Assessment) is crucial for improving the education system. One of the key areas of this research is assessing students’ grasp of basic knowledge and skills in natural sciences, including chemistry. The development of PISA test questions aimed at developing scientific literacy in chemistry lessons plays a vital role in enhancing the education quality and preparing students for the modern world.

Participation in the PISA international study makes it possible not only to assess the level of students’ learning, but also to evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and teaching methods. The development of PISA test questions for chemistry lessons not only increases students’ engagement in the subject, but also helps them develop key competencies necessary for academic success and future professional activities.

PISA chemistry test questions are aimed at testing not only students’ knowledge, but also their ability to analyze information, draw conclusions, and apply the knowledge gained in practice. Such tasks make it possible to evaluate not only the superficial memorization of facts, but also the understanding of the basic principles and laws of chemistry, fostering deeper and more lasting learning among students.

Therefore, integrating PISA test questions into the educational process in chemistry is both relevant and necessary to cultivate scientific thinking skills and practical application of knowledge. Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region, jointly with O.A. Ovchinnikova from the NIS of Chemistry and Biology of Ust-Kamenogorsk city, held a webinar for teachers of the region outlining key aspects of this issue.

In conclusion, the development of PISA test questions for chemistry lessons plays a significant role in improving the educational system, fosters the development of key competencies of students and prepares them for successful adaptation in modern society. Taking into account all these advantages, integrating PISA test questions into chemistry lessons is an important step towards improving the quality of education and training qualified specialists in the natural sciences.
