Results of online seminar “Developing learners’ critical thinking skills through PISA test questions to enhance scientific literacy”
On October 22, 2024, Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region held an online seminar titled “Developing learners’ critical thinking skills through PISA test questions to enhance scientific literacy”, in order to provide methodological support to teachers of biology, chemistry and natural sciences.
The seminar reviewed information about the work done to foster learners’ critical thinking using PISA test questions, teachers’ skills, and ways to integrate new technologies into biology and chemistry lessons.
During the seminar, the following speakers shared their practices:
– Arailym N. Kappasova – a teacher of chemistry, a teacher – expert of Secondary School No. 11 of Education Department of Ridder town of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region;
- Kenzhegul I. Zhakupova, a research teacher, a teacher of biology of Abai Secondary School of Education Department of Tarbagatai district of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region;
- Zalina K. Imangali, a teacher of biology of Secondary School No. 8 of Education Department of Ust-Kamenogorsk city of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region.
- Alma T. Okasova, a research teacher, a teacher of biology and natural sciences of Stepnoe Basic School – Kindergarten Complex of Education Department of Glubokoe district of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region.
In the reflective part of the seminar, the participants highlighted the practical significance and high motivational value of the materials presented by the speakers related to enhancing learners’ critical thinking using PISA test questions.
A total of 38 teachers of biology and chemistry from regional secondary schools participated in the seminar.
