East Kazakhstan region reported on the results of earthquake drills

East Kazakhstan region recently conducted earthquake drills, involving all civil protection services, enterprises, industrial facilities, institutions, educational and healthcare organizations of the region. Special attention was paid to the areas with people with limited mobility and large areas with high concentrations of people. In total, 615 organizations and 65,043 citizens participated.

According to the legend, an earthquake took place on the territory of the region. People evacuated their buildings and gathered in safe zones outdoors or managed to take safe places within buildings. At educational facilities, educators and teachers took children outdoors.  Healthcare workers and patients practiced taking shelter in doorways and corners of main walls. Industrial facilities simulated emergency equipment shutdowns. Particular emphasis was placed on evacuation procedures and safety rules for individuals with limited mobility and in areas with large crowds.

“Earthquake strikes without warning. Unfortunately, science cannot yet accurately predict it in advance. That’s why, it is crucial to constantly hone our response procedures for the first tremors. We conducted earthquake trainings with citizens and employees of enterprises at various facilities, explaining how to find relatively safe places within buildings to ride out tremors. Following the results of the earthquake trainings, the specialists of Emergency Situations Department gave recommendations to the heads of facilities for conducting similar training exercises on a regular basis,” said Deputy Head of Emergency Situations Department of East Kazakhstan region, Kuatbek Kenzhebekuly.
