An extended meeting with the participation of Akim of East Kazakhstan region E. Kosherbayev “Unified approaches to suicide prevention: problems and solutions”

On January 30, 2024, on the initiative of Akim of East Kazakhstan region E.B. Kosherbayev, Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region organized and held an extended meeting on the topic “Unified approaches to suicide prevention: problems and solutions”.

The meeting was attended by 250 people, including representatives of the Prosecutor's Office, Police Department, deputy akims of cities and districts, healthcare, education, non-governmental organizations and the Regional Commissioner for Children's Rights.

The meeting addressed the issues related to the prevention of self-destructive behavior among minors, offered recommendations for the development of effective measures to reduce suicides, also discussed the aspects of strengthening children's mental health.

As part of the meeting, students of universities and colleges presented their own applications “Nortrom” and “Network Guardian” aimed at preventing cyberbullying, protecting from unwanted content, and ensuring Internet safety for minors.

On behalf of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Government has adopted a Comprehensive Plan for Protecting Children from Violence, Preventing Suicide and Ensuring their Rights and Well-Being. Our region systematically implements this Plan, and monitors its implementation. One of the important steps towards implementing this plan was the opening of a Regional Center for Psychological Support and Assistance, thanks to the assistance of Akim of the region. This decision will allow us to concentrate the necessary approaches and strategies for suicide prevention in one place and effectively direct the efforts of psychological services of the region.
