Outcomes of online seminar “PhD, Professor, I.M. Uvaliyeva's Original Method for Guiding Learners' Scientific Projects”

On 13-14 December, 2023, Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region held an of online seminar entitled “PhD, Professor, I.M. Uvaliyeva's Original Method for Guiding Learners' Scientific Projects”. It aimed to provide methodological support to teachers in preparing schoolchildren for scientific projects at the regional and national levels while studying mathematics, physics, and computer science.

Indira Makhmutovna described the project method as a pedagogical technology where learners set a task for themselves and resolve it by organizing their own research, learning to solve problems. The term “project method” in Kazakhstan's educational system is more commonly used as the concept of “scientific projects of schoolchildren.”

Developing schoolchildren’s scientific research skills within scientific studies and learners’ projects requires teachers to possess knowledge and high pedagogical mastery. To effectively implement such work, teachers require relevant training.

Teachers often differentiate between learners’ scientific and research activities, understanding the former as a project prepared by a learner or a group, which is quite extensive and complies with the requirements of learners’ scientific projects. In the latter case, research is conducted within the scope of a topic or section during or outside of class, and the result is presented as a presentation or report in class. Working on a scientific project creates conditions for learners to engage in new types of activities, develop creative abilities and scientific thinking, and learn to discover new things. Research activities can be used for pedagogical purposes when working with learners of any age, but it is most intriguing in adolescence.

Following the seminar, the participants gained knowledge about organizing research activities in the educational process, allowing for individualizing the learning process according to learners’ personal traits and needs, organizing educational materials considering various modes of learning activities, and activating learners’ cognitive activities.

During the feedback session, the participants noted the relevance and practical significance of the seminar's topic and received methodological recommendations for further use in their practice. The event was attended by teachers of mathematics, physics, and computer science from general education schools of the region.
