PRESS RELEASE of Regional Online Championship “Skills For Geeks”

Championship opening: April 14, 2022 at 9.00 a.m.

Location: 21 Abai St., DigitalStudio (5th floor) conference hall, East-Kazakhstan Regional Center for New Technologies in Education of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region, Ust-Kamenogorsk city, educational institutions of cities and districts.

On April 14, 2022, the Regional Championship “Skills for Geeks” is taking place for two age categories 10+ and 14+. It is held in order to create conditions for the development of creative and intellectual abilities of children, to identify and support talented schoolchildren, as well as to encourage school students with the development and application of technologies of three-dimensional computer modeling, programming and sports robotics.

From February, 19 to March, 4, qualifying rounds were held in all 19 districts and cities of the region, as well as among regional specialized schools in order to choose the participants of the regional round of the Championship. In all, 437 teams, 2656 school students, took part in the qualifying round. The winners of the district and city rounds - 27 teams, 307 learners of IT classes - will show their knowledge at the Annual Regional Championship.

The impetus for achieving such number of participants was the initiative project of the Amanat Party “Free IT classes for children”. Thanks to the Initiative Project, all 644 schools of the region have IT classes where students develop their interest in digital technologies and study IT areas: robotics, programming and web design basics, 3D modeling.

The judges of the Championship are independent experts with scientific degrees, representatives of educational, scientific and public organizations and enterprises of the city.

Thus, the Championship will provide the growth of the popularity of the IT direction and motivation for scientific and technical creativity among school students of the region.
