Regional online workshop “Organization and support of school mediation services”

In 2019, Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region concluded a memorandum of mutual cooperation with East Kazakhstan Regional Court and East Kazakhstan Center for Mediation and Law “Alternative” NGO and implemented the project “School Mediation Service” within the framework of the state social order, in order to prevent conflict situations and offenses among school students.   

On March 3, 2021, a regional online workshop for coordinators of educational departments of cities and districts and heads of school mediation services on the topic “Organization and support of school mediation services” was held in educational institutions in fulfillment of the Interdepartmental Comprehensive Plan for Ensuring Children Safety of East Kazakhstan Region for 2021, jointly with East Kazakhstan Center for Mediation and Law Alternative, in order to develop a restorative way of responding to conflicts and offenses.   

During the workshop, the head of Alternative NGO Aksana A. Kalenova spoke about the methodological, organizational, legal aspects of the development of school mediation services, in general about mediation as a way of resolving conflicts. The participants discussed the ways and scenarios to resolve conflicts, the specifics of the mediator's work.

According to the joint plan for 2021, professional mediators for teachers and experts of school mediation services of educational institutions tend to conduct online trainings and consultations for schoolchildren and their parents.
