The Sustainable Education Development Foundation, in partnership with Google and STEM Solutions LLP, is implementing a pilot project on the use of Google for Education tools in rural schools.

The project's goal is to reduce the digital divide between urban and rural areas and to develop students' 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking and collaboration.

The project covers 14 rural schools, 240 teachers, and 1100 students across the republic. In the East Kazakhstan Region, 2 schools are participating in the project: the State Institution "Uryl Secondary School" (Katon-Karagai District) and the State Institution "Secondary School named after R. Marsekov" (Ulan District). The schools are equipped with Chromebooks, and the teachers have obtained Google Educator certification.

On March 19, 2026, an event was held at the State Institution "Uryl Secondary School" with the participation of Anna Artemyeva, Head of Education for Google for Education in Europe and Central Asia (United Kingdom).

The highlight of the visit was the ceremonial conferment of the "Google Reference School" status — the first such designation in Central Asia and the CIS countries. This international recognition was awarded to the Uryl Secondary School in the Katon-Karagai District of the East Kazakhstan Region. This status confirms the school's full compliance with Google's stringent global standards in digital pedagogy and innovation.

The attainment of the "Google Reference School" status by Uryl Secondary School will serve as an example for other schools in the country and will strengthen Kazakhstan's position in the field of digital pedagogy on the international stage.
