Ways to develop students’ scientific literacy

On November 21, 2025, Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region held an online webinar titled “Ways to develop students’ scientific literacy” for biology teachers of East Kazakhstan region who teach biology in the Kazakh language.  

The webinar for colleagues was conducted by Aigul A. Konakbayeva, a teacher of biology from Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of Ust-Kamenogorsk city. Biology teachers from all over the region participated in the ZOOM conference.

The goal of the webinar was to develop test questions in order to foster scientific literacy in biology classes.  

The speaker presented sample tasks necessary to prepare for PISA in various directions and sections of biology, and provided useful links.

The workshop made a significant contribution to the professional development of teachers and demonstrated that the development of scientific literacy was a modern and effective approach to learning that played an essential role in the future development of Kazakhstan’s education system.
