Injury prevention in daily life

Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region held an awareness lesson on “Injury prevention in everyday life”. The lesson was conducted in an interview format in collaboration with Zhanar A. Mukhtarova, an expert of Shygys Center for Preventive Medicine.

During the interactive discussion, school children, parents and teachers received answers to important questions about what injuries are, different types of injuries and how to reduce the risk of getting injured. Zhanar A. Mukhtarova emphasized that most household injuries result from inattention and the failure to follow basic safety rules. Particular attention was paid to common hazards that children may face at home, at school and in public spaces: sharp objects, slippery surfaces, electrical appliances, stairs and road traffic.

The speaker offered practical safety tips to help prevent injuries:

  • In winter, it is important to wear comfortable shoes with non-slip soles;
  • Strictly follow traffic rules and avoid using headphones or mobile phones while crossing the street;
  • Always fasten seat belts in cars;
  • Be cautious in the kitchen with hot liquids, stoves, and electrical devices;
  • At school, do not run or play on staircases and in hallways.

Moreover, the lesson covered first response actions in case of injuries: how to assist a peer, when to seek help from adults or call an ambulance, how to fix the injured limb using improvised materials before medical professionals arrive.

Following the lesson, Zhanar A. Mukhtarova stressed that the most effective prevention of injuries is in a responsible attitude, attentiveness, and vigilance, as well as regular parental reminders about safe behavior.

The lesson was engaging and fruitful, leaving the participants with not only new knowledge, but also with a clear understanding that caring for yourself and others is the best way to avoid injury in everyday life.
