There is such a profession – to love animals For the third year now, on the second Sunday of June, Kazakhstan celebrates the Day of the Livestock Breeder. This is a professional holiday of people who make a huge contribution to the development of the agricultural complex, the economy and industrial safety of the country. Today, Kazakhstan is one of the leading agricultural countries in Eurasia. The development of the agro-industrial complex is also focused on animal husbandry, both meat and dairy. Huge subsidies are allocated to agricultural workers, and preferential lending opportunities are being created for the opening and expansion of subsidiary farms. East Kazakhstan occupies a special place in the agro-industrial complex of the republic. The region is consistently in the top five in meat and milk production. This is facilitated by the geographical location, abundance of natural resources and large areas of pasture land. One of the exemplary enterprises in this area in the region is Bagration LLP. It has the status of a breeding farm for breeding pure-bred Simmental cattle and marals. The farm is one of the largest in the region, engaged in the sale of breeding cattle, sheep, horses and marals. Specialized meat Kazakh white-headed breed and dairy-meat Simmental breed of cows are bred here. The company is distinguished by a completed production cycle – from cultivation to finished products, which are sold far beyond the region. But the main thing that makes a peasant farm successful is the people who work in it. There are entire dynasties of residents of nearby villages who have devoted years to agriculture. – I came here to work right after school. Before my eyes, the company was growing, being rebuilt, and now there is a whole lot. My father was a shepherd, and we keep cattle at home. At first, he literally lived here, but as soon as he got a family, the working hours changed, the conditions were good. The work is not easy, but in the fresh air, like on vacation all year round," says Zhumabek Sadvakasov, a cattle breeder at the Bagration Farm. – I've been working as a maral breeder here for the second year. After serving in the army, he got a job at Bagration. I really like working with animals. In the future, I dream of becoming a veterinarian," says Ratmir Elemesov, a young maral breeder. Bagration is a unique maral breeding farm, there are more than 1000 marals here and they graze in the steppe, in a huge pen divided into park areas. The products of the farm – antlers of marals are sold abroad and are used for wellness procedures for tourists who are treated in the sanatorium of the enterprise. The next goal of livestock breeders is to breed their own "Bagration" type of Kazakh white–headed and increase the number of livestock. – To date, we have 800 heads of breeding stock for breeding bulls, and 550 heads on feedlots. In the meat sector, we bought hereford seed from Uruguay. The Hereford breed of cows is the ancestor of the Kazakh white–headed cow," explained Anuar Zhumanov, head of the livestock department of the Bagration Farm, congratulating colleagues on their professional holiday. It should be noted that as of May 1, 2024, the number of cattle in the republic amounted to 5.7 million thousand heads, of which 483 thousand are in East Kazakhstan region. There are over 26 million small cattle in the country, of which 717 thousand are in the region. There are 4.6 million horses in the republic, the livestock in the region exceeded 234 thousand. 7.3% of milk and 9% of meat produced in the country fall on the East Kazakhstan region.
