The short-termeconomic indicator inJanuary-August 2020 compared with January-August 2019 was 97.1%. Calculation of the short-term economic indicator is implemented to ensure efficiency and is based on the change in output indexes for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, constituting over 60% of GDP.

The volume of investment in fixed assets in January-August 2020 was 7041.2 billion tenge, which is 6.1% less than in January-August 2019.

Industrial output inJanuary-August 2020 was 16868. 1 billion tenge in current prices, which is 0.4% more than in January-August2019. In mining and quarrying production has decreased by 1.5%, in manufacturing production has increased by 3.3%, in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning production - by 1.9%.Production decreased by 2.4% in water supply, waste collection, processing and disposal, and pollution elimination activities.

The volume of gross output(services) of agricultural, foresty and fisheriesin January-August 2020 was 2418. 9 billion tenge, which is 4.9% more than in January-August 2019.

The volume of the construction works (services) in January-August 2020 was 2375. 9 billion tenge, which is 6.5% more than in January-August 2019.

In «Transport and warehousing» sector the volume indexin January-August 2020 was 83.9%.

The volumeof freight turnover in January-August 2020 amounted to 376. 5 billion ton-kilometers(given the estimation of the volume ofturnoverof individual entrepreneurs involved incommercial transportation), which is 4.1% less than January-August 2019. The volume of passenger turnover was 85.6 billion passenger-kilometers and decreased by 55.8%.

In «Communication» sector the volume index in January-August 2020 was 108.3%.

In «Trade» sector the volume indexin January-August 2020 was 89.5%.

The volume of retail trade in January-August 2020 was 6808. 8 billion tenge or 90.5% as compared to January-August 2019 (in the comparable prices).

The volume of wholesale trade in January-August 2020 was14083.7 billiontenge or 90% as compared to January-August 2019 (in the comparable prices).

The foreign trade turn over of Kazakhstan in January-July 2020 was 48747.2 million US dollars and compared to January- July 2019 it decreased by10.7%, including export – 28630. 8 millionUS dollars (13.3%less), imports – 20116. 4 millionUS dollars (6.5%less).

The number of registered legal entities as of September 1,2020 was 456697 unitsandcomparedwith the corresponding period of the previous year increased by 3.3%, including 448046units with less than100 employees.The number of operatingentities was 320320 including 311961 small businesses (less than 100 employees)

The consumer price index in August 2020 compared to December 2019 was 104.6%. The food prices have increased by 7.3%, non-food – by 3.4%, paid services -by 2%. Prices of industrial products in August 2020 compared to December 2019 has decreased by 6.9%.

Social sector

Per capita nominal income of the population estimated in July 2020 was 111867 tenge (preliminary data) which is 6.1% higher compared to July 2019, the real monetary income in July 2020 decreased by 0.9%.

Average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (estimated) in August 2020 was 211226 tenge

The number of unemployed people determined by the ILO methodology for the II quarter of 2020 amounted to 454 thousand people. The unemployment rate was 5% of the labor force. Number of persons registered with employment officesas unemployed at the end of August 2020 was 219. 2 thousand people or 2.4% of the labor force
