Inflation in the Republic of Kazakhstan for January-August 2020 amounted to 4,6%

Food prices for eight months of this year (August 2020 to December 2019) increased by 7,3%, non-food – by 3,4%, and for paid services – by 2%.

From the beginning of this year (August 2020 to December 2019), a price increase was noted for cereals by 21,5%, potatoes – by 21%, fruits – by 18,4%, mutton – by 12,9%, granulated sugar – by 12,3%, flour – by 12,1%, pasta – by 10,7%, butter– by 9,9%, rennet cheese – by 9,3%, horse meat – by 9,1%, beef – by 8,1%, tea – by 7,8%, frozen fish– by 7,3%,sausages,pork – by 6,6%, bakery and flour products – by 5,8%, pasteurized milk – by 5,2%, bread – by 4,5%, cottage cheese – by 3,4%.Tobacco products went up by 10,8%, mineral and drinking water – by 8,9%, soft drinks – by 6,5%, alcoholic drinks – by 6%.Price reductions were recorded for eggs by 6,1%,fresh vegetables – by 4,6%,millet – by 2,4%, rice – by 2%.

The increase in prices for medicines was amounted to 7,5%, detergents and cleaners – 7,1%, household appliances – 5%, construction materials – 4,9%, cars – 4,7%, notebook – 3,3%, stationery – 3,2%. Gasoline went up by 2,6%, while diesel fell 3,2%.

The price level forfuneral servicesincreased by 5,7%, health services – by 4,3%,hairdressers and beauty salons – 3,8%,catering – by 2,5%.Subscription fees for Internet access increased by 2,2%.Travel by urban transport (taxi) rose by 6%, by passenger rail - by 4,4%, and by air - fell by 6,2%.

In the field of housing and communal services, hot water tariffs decreased by 5,5%,central heating – by 3,4%,sewage – by 3,1%, cold water – by 2,2%, and for garbage collection – increased by 11,1%, electricity – by 3,5%.

The consumer price index, which characterizes the inflation rate, shows the change in prices for goods and services purchased by the population for personal consumption. The set of goods and services includes 510 positions. Price registration is carried out according to a selective network of trade and services enterprises of various ownership forms in all regional centers, the capital and a certain circle of cities and regional centers. The system of weights used for aggregation in terms of their expenses is calculated based on materials from household surveys for the previous year.

Since January 2020 during the construction of the CPI, the share of food products is 39,0%, non-food – 28,9%, paid services – 32,1%.
