Inflation in the Republic of Kazakhstan for January-May 2020 amounted to 3,7%

Food prices for five months of this year (May 2020 to December 2019) increased by 6,8%, non-food – by 2,1%, and for paid services – decreased by 1,2%.

From the beginning of this year (May 2020 to December 2019), a price increase was noted for vegetables by 22,4%, fruits – by 18,3%, granulated sugar – by 12,1%, cereals – by 10,6%, mutton – by 8,6%, butter, pasta – by 7,5%, flour – by 6,9%, meat products – by 6,8%, horse meat – by 6,7%, beef – by 6,1%, rennet cheese – by 5,5%, frozen fish – by 5,4%, pork – by 4,2%, sausages – by 4,1%, pasteurized milk – by 4%, tea – by 3,7%, bakery and flour products – by 3,4%, dairy products – by 3,2%, cottage cheese – by 3%, bread – by 2,4%. Mineral and drinking water went up by 5,6%, tobacco products – by 5,3%, soft drinks – by 3,4%. Price reductions were recorded for white cabbage by 27,9%, rice – by 2,6%, millet – by 1,7%.

The increase in prices for detergents and cleaners was amounted to 4,9%, medicines – 4,7%, personal products – 4,5%, household appliances – 3,6%, cars – 3,4%, construction materials – 2,1%. Gasoline went up by 3,4%, while diesel fell 2,9%.

The price level for legal services, personal vehicle insurance increased by 10%, health services – by 3,2%, kindergartens – by 2,2%, cable television – by 2%, hairdressers and personal services – by 1,9%. Subscription fees for Internet access increased by 2%. Travel by urban transport (taxi) rose by 4,8%, by air passenger transport – by 0,8%.

In the field of housing and communal services, sewage tariffs decreased by 7%, cold water – by 6%, hot water – by 4,7%, central heating – by 3,3%, and for garbage collection – increased by 9%, electricity – by 0,4%.

The consumer price index, which characterizes the inflation rate, shows the change in prices for goods and services purchased by the population for personal consumption. The set of goods and services includes 510 positions. Price registration is carried out according to a selective network of trade and services enterprises of various ownership forms in all regional centers, the capital and a certain circle of cities and regional centers. The system of weights used for aggregation in terms of their expenses is calculated based on materials from household surveys for the previous year.

Since January 2020 during the construction of the CPI, the share of food products is 39,0%, non-food – 28,9%, paid services – 32,1%.
