Demographic situation for January-September 2022

The population of the country as of October 1, 2022 amounted to 19 691,9 thousand people, including urban – 12 151,7 thousand people (61,7%), rural – 7 540,2 thousand people (38,3%). Compared to people, at the beginning of the 2022 the population increased by 188,7 thousand people or 1,0%.

 

Natural increase

Natural population increase of the republic in January-September 2022 compared to January-September 2021                 (201,2 thousand people) decreased by 1,6% and amounted to 198,0 thousand people. Natural population increase rate amounted to 13,49 people per 1000 population.

As a result of processing the information contained in the СIVIL status provided by civil register offices, in                 January-September 2022 the number of births amounted to 299,7 thousand people, which is 11,5% less than in January- September 2021 (338,8 thousand people). Crude birth rate amounted to 20,41 births per 1000 population.

In the period under review the number of deaths amounted to 101,7 thousand people, which is 26,1% less than in January-September 2021 (137,6 thousand people). Crude death rate amounted to 6,92 births per 1000 population.

In January-September 2022, 2 453 infant deaths under one year of age were registered in the republic. Compared to January-September 2021 (2 682 infant deaths) decreased by 8,5%. Infant mortality rate amounted to 8,18 per 1000 live births..

Population migration

As a result of processing the information provided by migration authorities, in January-September 2022, 10 995 immigrants were registered in the country, number of emigrants amounted to 20 341 people, net-migration -9 346 people.

The main migration exchange of the country takes place with the CIS countries. The share of immigrants and emigrants to and from CIS countries amounted to 84,4% and 84,8% of the total number of migrants.

The number of internal migrants decreased by 0,7%. In terms of interregional migration, a positive net-migration was formed in 3 regions of the country: Almaty (27 741 people), Astana (26 676 people), Shymkent (2 251 people) cities.
