Demographic situation for January-August 2022

The population of the country as of September 1, 2022 amounted to 19 666,8 thousand people, including urban – 12 131,1 thousand people (61.7%), rural – 7 535,7 thousand people (38.3%). Compared to people, at the beginning of the 2022 the population increased by 163,7 thousand people or 0,8%.

 

 

Natural increase

Natural population increase of the republic in January-August 2022 compared to January-August 2021(178,9 thousand people) decreased by 3,6% and amounted to 172,4 thousand people. The total natural population growth rate per 1000 population was 13,19 people.

As a result of processing the information contained in the СIVIL status records submitted by the register offices bodies, the number of births in January-August 2022 amounted to 263,8 thousand people, which is 11.0% less than in the corresponding period of 2021 (296,5 thousand people). The total fertility rate per 1000 population was 20.19 births.

In the period under review the number of deaths amounted to 91,4 thousand people, which is 22,3% less than in January-August 2021 (117,6 thousand people). Crude death rate amounted to 7,00 births per 1000 population.

In January-August 2022, 2 208 infant deaths under one year of age were registered in the republic. Compared to January-August 2021 (2 345 infant deaths) decreased by 5.8%. Infant mortality rate amounted to 8.37 per 1000 live births..

Population migration

As a result of processing the information provided by migration authorities, in January-August 2022, the number of arrivals in the country amounted to 9 595 people,  the number of departures from  the country – 18 275 people, the migration  balance was – 8 680 people.

The main migration exchange of the country takes place with the CIS countries. The share of immigrants and emigrants to and from CIS countries amounted to 84.4% and 85.1% of the total number of migrants.

The number of internal migrants decreased by 2.1%. In terms of interregional migration, a positive net-migration was formed in 3 regions of the country: Almaty (24,711 people), Astana (22,960 people), Shymkent (2,154 people) cities.
