Demographic situation for January-July 2021

The population of the country as of August 1, 2022 amounted to 19 644.1 thousand people, including urban – 12 111.1 thousand people (61.7%), rural – 7 533.0 thousand people (38.3%). Compared to the beginning of 2022 the population increased by 140.9 thousand people or 0.7%.

Natural increase

Natural population increase of the republic in January-July 2022 compared to January-July 2021 (162.7 thousand people) decreased by 9% and amounted to 148.1 thousand people. Natural population increase rate amounted to 12.99 people per 1000 population.

As a result of processing the information contained in the СIVIL status provided by civil register offices, in                 January-July 2022 the number of births amounted to 227.9 thousand people, which is 11% less than in January-July 2021 (256.0 thousand people). Crude birth rate amounted to 19.99 births per 1000 population.

In the period under review the number of deaths amounted to 79.8 thousand people, which is 14.5% less than in January-July 2021 (93.3 thousand people). Crude death rate amounted to 7.00 births per 1000 population.

In January-July 2022, 1914 infant deaths under one year of age were registered in the republic. Compared to January-July 2021 (2006 infant deaths) decreased by 4.6%. Infant mortality rate amounted to 8.40 per 1000 live births.

Population migration

As a result of processing the information provided by migration authorities, in January-July 2022, 8372 immigrants were registered in the country, number of emigrants amounted to 15547 people, net-migration -7175 people.

The main migration exchange of the country takes place with the CIS countries. The share of immigrants and emigrants to and from CIS countries amounted to 84.1% and 84.6% of the total number of migrants.

The number of internal migrants decreased by 1.8%. In terms of interregional migration, a positive net-migration was formed in 3 regions of the country: Almaty (20860 people), Nur-Sultan (19007 people), Shymkent (2140 people) cities.
