Demographic situation for January-November 2021
The population of the country as of December 1, 2021 amounted to 19 102.4 thousand people, including urban – 11 336.3 thousand people (59.3%), rural – 7 766.1 thousand people (40.7%). Compared to December 1, 2020 the population increased by 249.7 thousand people or 1.3%.
Natural increase
Natural population increase of the republic in January-November 2021 compared to January-November 2020 (237.4 thousand people) increased by 2.6% and amounted to 243.6 thousand people. Natural population increase rate amounted to 14.00 people per 1000 population.
As a result of processing the information contained in the СIVIL status provided by civil register offices, in January-November 2021 the number of births amounted to 413.0 thousand people, which is 6.8% more than in January-November 2020 (386.9 thousand people). Crude birth rate amounted to 23.75 births per 1000 population.
In the period under review the number of deaths amounted to 169.4 thousand people, which is 13.3% more than in January-November 2020 (149.5 thousand people). Crude death rate amounted to 9.75 births per 1000 population.
In January-November 2021, 3392 infant deaths under one year of age were registered in the republic. Compared to January-November 2020 (3015 infant deaths) decreased by 12.5%. Infant mortality rate amounted to 8.21 per 1000 live births.
Population migration
As a result of processing the information provided by migration authorities, in January-November 2021, 9 559 immigrants were registered in the country, number of emigrants amounted to 30 227 people, net-migration -20 668 people.
The main migration exchange of the country takes place with the CIS countries. The share of immigrants and emigrants to and from CIS countries amounted to 85.2% and 85.9% of the total number of migrants.
The number of internal migrants decreased by 8.1%. In terms of interregional migration, a positive net-migration was formed in 4 regions of the country: Almaty (26 893 people), Shymkent (9 545 people), Nur-Sultan (28 463 people) cities and Mangystay oblast (211 people).
