The short-term economic indicator in January-May 2021compared with January-May2020 was 102%Calculation of the short-term economic indicator is implemented to ensure efficiency and is based on the change in output indexes for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, constituting over 60% of GDP.

The volume of investment in fixed assets in January-May 2021was3830billion tenge, which is 5.6% less than in January-May 2020

Industrial output in January-May 2021 was 14019.1 billion tenge, which is 1.4% more than in January-May 2020. The decrease was recorded in the mining and quarrying (by 4.9%). Mean while, there is an increase in the in the manufacturing industry (by 7.2%), electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air-conditioned (by 5.6%), water supply, collection, processing and disposal of waste, industrial pollution elimination activities (by 7.6%).

The volume of gross output (services) of agricultural, foresty and fisheries in January-May 2021was1110.2 billion tenge, which is 3.1% more than in January-May 2020

The volume of the construction works (services) in January-May 2021 was 1139.7 billion tenge, which is 11.3% more than in January-May 2020.

In «Transport and warehousing» sector the volume index in January-May 2021 was 93.1%.

The volume of freight turnover in January-May 2021 amounted to 228.6billion ton-kilometers (given the estimation of the volume of turnover of individual entrepreneurs in volved in commercial transportation), which is 0.4% less than January-May 2020. The volume of passenger turnover was 34.4billion passenger-kilometers and decreased by 51.6%.

In «Communication» sector the volume index in January-May 2021 was 111.6%.

In «Trade» sector the volume index in January-May 2021 was 106.7%.

The volume of retail trade in January-May 2021 was 4098.9 billion tenge or 107.5% as compared to January-May 2020 (in the comparable prices).

The volume of wholesale trade in January-May 2021 was 9091billion tenge or 108.3% as compared to January-May 2020 (in the comparable prices).

The foreign tradeturnover of Kazakhstan in January-April 2021was28107.7million US dollarsandcompared to January-April 2020 it decreased by3.7% (in nominal terms), including export – 16712.5 millionUS dollars (11.8% less, in nominal terms), imports – 11395.2 millionUS dollars(11.5% more, in nominal terms).

The number of registered legal entities as of June 1, 2021 was 468027 units and compared with the corresponding period of the previous year increased by 3.6%, including 459406 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating entities was 340530, including 332126 small businesses (less than100 employees)

The consumer price index in May 2021 compared to December 2020 was 103.5%. The food prices have increased by 4.9%, non-food – by 3.1%, paid services – by 2.1%. Prices of industrial products in May 2021 compared to December 2020 has increased by 24.5%.

Social sector

Per capita nominal income of the population estimated in April 2021 was 124132 tenge (preliminary data) which is 10.1% higher compared to April 2020, the real monetary income in April 2021 increased by 2.9%.

Average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (estimated) in May 2021 was 232347 tenge

The number of unemployed people determined by the ILO methodology for the I quarter of 2021 amounted to 451.3 thousand people.The unemployment rate was 4.9% of the labor force. Number of persons registered with employment offices as unemployed at the end of May 2021 was 222.7thousand people or 2.4% of the labor force
