Demographic situation for January- December 2020

The population of the country as of January 1, 2021 amounted to 18877.1 thousand people, including urban – 11149.7 thousand people (59.1%), rural – 7727.4 thousand people (40.9%).

Compared to January 1, 2020 the population increased by 245.0 thousand people or 1.3%. During the period under review, the greatest overall increase was observed in the 3 regions of the country: Almaty (60.2 thousand people), Nur-Sultan (48.5 thousand people) and Shymkent (38.0 thousand people) cities.
