Today, the Akim of North Kazakhstan region Gauez Nurmukhambetov inspected the progress of construction of bypass canals and work to strengthen protective dams in Petropavl and Kyzylzhar district.
In Kyzylzhar district, the villages of Sokolovka, Bolshaya Malyshka and Vagulino are at risk. To minimize the risk of flooding, a new canal is being built near Sokolovka and the bed of the Yesil River is being corrected. This will increase the capacity of the river near these settlements.
During the peak flood, the Petropavl hydroelectric complex is unable to pass the required volume of water due to the narrowing of the bed. The solution to this problem will be a bypass canal using the existing backwater around the village of Zarechnyi. Currently, construction of a 3.7 km long bypass canal is actively underway, which will ensure the timely discharge of flood waters in the early stages. In addition, work continues on laying reinforced concrete slabs on the dams of Ushcheva and the village of Kozhevennyi. This will significantly strengthen the dams, prevent dam erosion and ensure protection of microdistricts from flooding.
