Today, Katarzyna Wawiernia, UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan, visited our region. During the meeting, the Akim of North Kazakhstan region Gauez Nurmukhambetov and Katarzyna Wawiernia discussed key issues of strengthening cooperation between the region and UNDP, as well as prospects for further work.
UNDP and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan actively cooperate to promote sustainable economic growth in the regions. In its work, UNDP uses an integrated approach that helps to attract and scale private investment through relatively small amounts of donor funds, thereby creating a multiplier effect that contributes to sustainable development.
For example, in the North Kazakhstan region, UNDP supported the implementation of more than 10 SME projects interested in introducing green technologies. And $1 million in donor funds, used through financial instruments, helped attract more than $3 million in private investment.
At the meeting, Katarzyna Wawernia proposed launching a joint pilot project to integrate sustainable economic development into regional planning. This project envisages the development of a five-year territorial development program that will take into account landscape planning, adaptation to climate change, promotion of sustainable agriculture, development of green value chains, preservation of biodiversity and integration of the climate agenda into regional planning processes.
"We support this initiative and are interested in implementing the pilot project. For our region, measures aimed at increasing productivity in the agricultural sector, improving resilience to climate risks and effective prevention of natural disasters are especially important. This meeting allowed us to synchronize watches and outline ways to expand cooperation with UNDP. I am confident that through joint efforts we will be able to achieve significant results and accelerate the implementation of sustainable and innovative solutions that will have a positive impact on the development of our region," the head of the region wrote on social networks.
