Address from Akim of North Kazakhstan region Gauez Nurmukhambetov to residents of region regarding the flood situation

Dear fellow countrymen!

The flood situation in the region remains difficult. We are taking all necessary flood control measures. At the first stage, work was carried out to drain melt water from populated areas.

And now a lot of water is flowing along the Yessil River.

An absolute record for overflow was recorded at the Sergeyev Reservoir - 4 meters, 25 centimeters. This is much higher than the severe flood of 2017. High water threatens populated areas along the banks of the Yessil River. In approximately a day or two, the water will reach the regional center. The villages of Pribrezhnoye and Teplichnoye and the village of Zarechnyi are under threat of flooding.

All these days we have been working around the clock to build and strengthen dams. We strengthened the dam around the first rise pumping station for an uninterrupted supply of drinking water.

Unprecedented measures have been taken to protect our communities. However, this may not be enough. A huge stream of water is moving towards Petropavlovsk. Let me emphasize again, huge!

On behalf of First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Vasilyevich Sklyar, the evacuation of residents of the village of Zarechnyi, whose houses are located in the flood zone, is being carried out. I ask residents to be understanding and not to ignore the requirements of the flood period.

It is necessary to impeccably comply with the requirements of the emergency department, police and city akimat. This also applies to residents of dacha areas. On my instructions, the akim of Petropavl has repeatedly spoken about the work being carried out and the need to evacuate the population.

The safety of citizens is paramount. Head of State Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev noted the importance of preserving the lives and health of residents during the flood period. The state will provide the necessary assistance and support. Compensation is provided. The mechanism has been worked out. No one will be left unattended. During meetings with district residents, they provided explanations and assured that help would reach everyone.

This year's flood is a big test for all of us. Thanks to cohesion and unity, we will be able to overcome all difficulties. Now over 3 thousand people are involved in the fight against high water. These are contractors, construction companies, businessmen, civil servants, rescuers, utility services, police officers, volunteers and ordinary residents of our city and regions. Rescue services from other regions, members of the National Guard and the Ministry of Defense came to help. I am grateful to everyone for their help during this difficult period. I’m telling you a simple human “thank you.”

Serious challenges lie ahead of us. The most important thing is to remain calm and help each other. The scale of the flood should not be underestimated. Think about your loved ones. If your house or cottage is located in a flood zone, move to a safe place. There is nothing more valuable than human life. Be carefull. We all hope for the best, but prepare for the worst case scenario. We will make every effort to ensure the safety of our residents and minimize the consequences of the flood.

Patience and good luck to all of us!
