ANNOUNCEMENT on public discussions on construction of nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan

We hereby inform you that in the Nation Address on September 1, 2023, “The Economic Course of a Fair Kazakhstan,” the Head of State initiated a national referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, with preliminary public discussions of this issue with the people.

At the same time, in the Address, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan noted that the timing of the referendum will be determined later. The procedure for holding a referendum is regulated by the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On the Republican Referendum” dated November 2, 1995.

In order to discuss the issue of constructing a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan before the referendum, the akimat of Petropavl plans to hold public discussions.

Industry experts from the nuclear industry will take part in the public discussions. During public discussions, citizens will be able to ask any questions they are interested in both on the safety of technologies and on the socio-economic aspects of nuclear power plant construction.
