At the initiative of Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the large-scale national program "Abaiga Kurmet" was launched last year. As part of this program, the country's regions are donating socially significant facilities to the Abai region as a sign of solidarity and respect. These are not just new buildings and structures—they are a clear embodiment of national unity, mutual support, and intergenerational continuity.
Today, a groundbreaking ceremony for the Square of National Symbols took place on Beibitshilik Island in Semey. The event was attended by Berik Uali, Akim of the Abai region, and Nurlan Kenesov, Deputy Akim of the North Kazakhstan Region.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nurlan Kenesov emphasized the initiative's profound spiritual significance:
"Today in Semey, on the banks of the Irtysh River, we are witnessing an event of historic proportions. The laying of the time capsule for the construction of the Square of State Symbols and the stele is not simply the beginning of construction; it is a sincere expression of love for the Motherland. This project is a gift from the North Kazakhstan Region to the land of Abai, to sacred Semey, for the 180th anniversary of the great thinker Abai Kunanbayev. It is a sign of fraternal respect and a strong connection between the regions," he noted.
The project envisions the construction of a circular square with a diameter of 28 meters and a stele with a total height of 35 meters, which will become the dominant architectural feature of the space and a symbol of statehood. The project's implementation will further strengthen cooperation between the regions and preserve the spiritual legacy of the great Abai.
