The Taza Kazakstan eco-day was held in the NKR: young people choose a clean region

A busy eco-day was held in Petropavl as part of the Taza Kazakstan national program initiated by the Head of State. The city's youth participated in the intellectual game "Eco IQ: Taza Kazakstan," as well as creative events "Eco-Wall of Wishes" and "Eco-Stop Frame." The initiative was initiated by the Youth Initiatives Department of the Center for Public Development and Information.

The intellectual game "Eco IQ: Taza Kazakstan" brought together students from city colleges and aimed to raise awareness about cleanliness and the environment, develop critical thinking, and teamwork. The competition consisted of two rounds: in the first, participants answered questions on environmental topics, ranging from general knowledge to specific topics such as waste disposal standards; In the second, they raced to quickly arrange phrases in the correct sequence. After tallying the points, the jury determined the leaders; the winning teams received diplomas for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, while active participants received small prizes and healthy treats. The organizers emphasized that the results were assessed based on the correctness of the answers and the teams' activity.

"The idea for these intellectual games arose as part of our initiative to raise environmental awareness among young people. Our goals are not only to educate students but also to develop critical thinking and teamwork. Therefore, we decided that the game would be an excellent platform for discussing current environmental issues, such as waste sorting and biodiversity conservation. We hope that the participants will be able to apply the knowledge they gain in their lives," Almagul Gabbas, event organizer and front office coordinator for the Birgemiz volunteer organization, noted.

According to the organizers, such interactive events are becoming a good tradition in the region: the emphasis is on engaging young people practically, so that important environmental topics are reinforced not only in theory but also through personal experience. A student from the College of Mechanical Engineering and Transport shared her impressions of the game.

"I was amazed at how much interesting information I could learn in just one hour. During the game, we not only competed but also exchanged opinions, sharing our ideas and suggestions for improving the environmental situation in our city. Each flag not only represented a specific country but also symbolized important environmental topics and initiatives. This added an element of surprise and excitement. Overall, participating in this game was not only an interesting experience for me but also an opportunity to contribute to an important cause. Environmental issues are important to me, and I believe that everything starts with us — with small steps," second-year student Yevgeniya Gubskaya shared.

An "Eco-Wall of Wishes" event also took place. Young residents of Petropavl posted messages, drawings, and ideas on a large information banner, under the theme "What I Want Kazakhstan to See in 10 Years" — from proposals for separate waste collection and greening courtyards to initiatives for developing cycling infrastructure and environmental education.

The "Eco-Stop Frame" campaign continued the Eco-Day. Participants created socially significant photo and video stories, capturing the contrast between a "dirty" situation and its "clean" alternative — before and after cleanups, sorting instead of illegal dumps, and well-maintained courtyards instead of littered areas. The materials are posted on social media to draw attention to respect for nature and inspire others to participate. The campaign will run until the end of the month.

The series of events combined educational, creative, and practical components of "Taza Kazakstan." According to the organizers, the combination of a lively competition format, public expression on the "Eco-Wall of Wishes," and visual "stop-motion" images helps instill sustainable habits in young people who care about the city and the environment.
