11 CANALS WILL BE RECONSTRUCTED IN SHYMKENT

11 canals with a length of 134.4 km will be reconstructed in Shymkent this year. This was discussed at the meeting chaired by the city mayor Murat Aitenov. At the meeting, head of the agriculture and veterinary medicine directorate Askar Kanybekov spoke about the modernization of irrigation infrastructure of irrigated lands. The head of the Directorate noted that today there are 27 canals in Shymkent with a total length of 241.24 km. One of the 11 canals that will be repaired this year is the "Otemis" canal with a length of 10 kilometers. Major repairs have already been started there. The estimated cost is 545 million tenge.
The mayor instructed to speed up the implementation of projects to modernize the irrigation infrastructure and ensure proper control over the effective use of funds.
It should be noted that within the framework of PPP projects, 850 million tenge is provided for mechanical cleaning of riverbeds and canals of Shymkent for 2020-2024. In addition, it is planned to mechanically clean 16 more canals (117.3 km).
