A meeting on disaster prevention and clean-up operations was held under the chairmanship of Shymkent city mayor Murat Aitenov.
At the meeting, the head of the city Department of emergency situations Nurbolat Derbisov informed that there were no destroyed houses in the Eltay residential area after the flood.
According to him, the floods damaged 38 houses. However, these houses only require current repairs. Besides, 12 barns fell down. Due to the lack of documents for collapsed objects, the state does not pay compensation.
At the meeting, first Deputy mayor of the city Yerbol Sadyr noted that the work on identifying the consequences of flooding and calculating the amount of damage will continue with a specially created Commission.
"On the night of May 13-14, a half-month rainfall rate fell in 40 minutes. As a result, the amount of water passing through the Badam river was 146 cubic meters per second. That is, the water was seven times more than the average normal state. Now 49 cubic meters of water passes per second.
This means that river water is decreasing. In connection with the situation in the city, the dangerous places in the city have been identified together with the Directorate of agriculture, energy and housing and utilities. In this regard, an instruction was given to 4 district mayors. In the Abay district, the necessary work is underway to bank protection of the Badam river, " - said Yerbol Sadyr.
Forecasters promise that there will be precipitation in Shymkent in the coming days. Therefore, the precautionary measures will be strengthened by the city authorities.
