With coming of winter and cold, ice sheets can be formed in water bodies. At this time, it is extremely dangerous to reach the surface. However, every year many people ignore precautions and climb on thin ice, thereby exposing their lives to lethal danger.
In order to prevent accidents on water bodies of the city, within the framework of the Republican campaign "Beware of ice!", employees of the Department of emergency situations of Shymkent city carried out preventive raids on the Badam and Togus reservoirs.
In addition, during the campaign, more than 300 memos and brochures were distributed in hunting and fishing stores, and more than 20 conversations were held with visitors and store administrators.
According to rescuers, ice with a thickness of at least 10 cm in fresh water and 15 cm in salt water is considered safe for humans. In river mouths and channels, the ice strength is weakened. It is difficult to measure the thickness of ice by eye, so you need to remember that the most durable ice is blue, the strength of white ice is 2 times less, and matte-white or yellowish ice is unreliable. Ice is fragile in places of rapid flow, gushing springs and runoff waters, as well as in areas where aquatic vegetation grows, near trees, bushes, and reeds.
Besides, the Emergency Department of Shymkent city strongly recommends that citizens do not leave children unattended, and also warn them daily that it is very dangerous to be on the ice now, especially to arrange games.
