The Department of Trade and Consumer Protection of Shymkent city from January 2023 to date has considered 2141 applications of individuals and legal entities and returned 106.0 million tenge to consumers.
The retail trade (cars, household appliances, computer, etc.) and catering are particularly high in complaints.
On 26 October 2023, a briefing on the public concept «Sapaly Onim» was held in the building of the party «Amanat» in Shymkent.
It is proposed to launch a public concept of «Sapaly Onim». There is already a basic set of legislative tools and mechanisms for this purpose.
In particular, the current Consumer Protection Law allows public associations:
- to study the consumer properties of the product;
- initiate expert examination of the quality and safety of goods;
- conduct surveys of the population to identify public opinion on the quality of products;
- apply to state authorities to assess the quality of goods;
- file lawsuits in court in the interests of consumers;
- disseminate information on the results of product quality and safety studies.
Moreover, when implementing this functionality, the public has the right to use photo, audio and video recording of all actions taken during visits to places where goods are sold.
Therefore, we call on consumers and public institutions to speak out more loudly about their rights to quality and safe products. This will be a key turning point in building civilised market relations.
