“Flower of adaptation”: plants grown in the colony were transferred to the Shakhtinsk school

A new way of psychological relief for convicts is practiced by psychologists in one of the colonies of the Karaganda region, each of the convicts takes responsibility for the plant.

Psychologists of one of the colonies of the Karaganda region have proposed an unconventional way of psychological relief. In institution No. 33, convicts grow indoor flowers to improve psychological comfort and peace of mind. As the psychologists of the institution told, the convicts grow ornamental indoor plants in pots. There are a lot of colors here and they are quite diverse.

– We started growing the first flowers a few years ago, after staying in the quarantine department, I was assigned to the squad. At that time I had a difficult period of adaptation, psychologists came to my aid. After long conversations and other events, I was offered to plant a flower and start taking care of it, I got very carried away with this process. Taking care of him, distracted from the daily hustle and bustle, sometimes even forgot that he was far from home. Seeing how hard it is for some convicts, I offered them the same way to escape from the gray everyday life. Over time, there were more than 50 of us, where everyone took care of their grown flower," the convict said.

– It is necessary for every person to be responsible for himself and his actions. Taking care of flowers has a positive effect on the aesthetic and psychological perception of convicts, on the process of their re-socialization and re–education, teaches them to be responsible," said the head of institution No. 33 Yerlan Apakhanov.

The convicts decided to transfer more than 50 grown flowers to one of the schools in Shakhtinsk, thereby freeing up space for new plants.
