Those held in a pre-trial detention center in the capital also voted in the referendum

Citizens of pre-trial detention facilities did not stay away from the republican referendum held in the country on amendments and additions to the Constitution, and made a voluntary choice of citizenship.
At the polling station No. 216, located in the pre-trial detention center of the Department of the Penal correction system of Nur-Sultan, suspects and prosecutors began voting from 07:00 in the morning.
Chairman of the Referendum Commission at the polling station Kanat Rakhimov said that the voting takes place in accordance with the requirements of the law and legal norms.
According to the law, citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan who have reached the age of majority, whose sentence has not entered into legal force, who are in pre-trial detention centers, have universal active suffrage. In the capital's pre-trial detention center, 437 people have this right, these are persons whose verdict has not entered into legal force and who are temporarily detained for investigation. At the polling station №216, the Central Election Commission provided boxes and booths for voting, as well as memos, brochures, office supplies, the premises are equipped with video surveillance,-he said.
Pavel Shcherbakov, who is in a temporary detention facility, expressed confidence that the rule of law will be established after the referendum.
