In total, 42 general educational institutions operate at the institutions of the penal enforcement system of Kazakhstan. The total number of students here exceeds 1.6 thousand people. The curriculum program in the prison structure is no different from the domestic education system. On an equal basis with students, convicts study languages, history, algebra, physics, chemistry and other general education subjects. At the end of eleven classes, all of them will receive a certificate of secondary general education with final marks.
For many convicts, this opportunity is a chance to start a new life, after their release they plan to apply the knowledge and skills acquired within the walls of penitentiary institutions.
One such example is the 33-year-old convict R., serving his sentence in the maximum security institution OV-156/6 DUIS in the East Kazakhstan region. At the age of 25, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for distributing narcotic drugs.
According to the young man, he studies purposefully "for the will." After graduating from the penitentiary school, he plans to enroll in distance learning in the specialty "System Administrator in the field of information technology".
"The 21st century is the century of information systems, I really like the work of an IT specialist, so I really love the subject of computer science, I hope when I get free, I will enter this specialty in the future," the convict shares.
He left school after the 9th grade, the young man did not think about entering a higher educational institution, the primary task then was earnings.
"Thank you to the teachers for their patience and for the fact that they have always been able to listen to us, even though we are "prisoners", as they say in the people. But the teachers have always treated us with understanding and support," the prisoner thanked.
In June, along with 480 convicted graduates, he will have to take exams, after which he will receive a certificate of secondary general education.
