The Probation Service of the Tupkaragan District Department of the Penal Correction System in the Mangystau Region recorded a serious violation of the conditions of a sentence involving restriction of freedom.
The offender, who was under probation supervision and wearing an electronic bracelet, decided to briefly leave his home — reportedly “just for five minutes to visit a neighbor.” However, this exit occurred without notifying the probation service and outside the permitted zone, which constitutes a direct violation of sentencing conditions.
An alarm signal was received by the monitoring center from the electronic bracelet. When probation officers attempted to contact the offender, he failed to respond. Realizing he had violated the rules and fearing the consequences, the individual panicked, cut the bracelet strap, and tried to cover up the incident.
Probation officers promptly recorded the violation and submitted the case to court. By decision of the Tupkaragan District Court, the remaining term of the restricted freedom sentence was replaced with imprisonment for a period of 9 months and 2 days.
The damage caused by tampering with the electronic monitoring device was fully compensated by the offender.
The Probation Service reminds:
An electronic bracelet is not a formality.
All movements and attempts to interfere with the system are immediately detected. Even a “short unauthorized outing” may result in stricter penalties and actual imprisonment.
