Attempt to Smuggle Mobile Phone Hidden in Bread Foiled at Correctional Facility in Kyzylorda.

At correctional facility No. 60 of the Department of the Penitentiary System of the Kyzylorda Region, officers successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle a prohibited item to an inmate.

A visitor, who is an acquaintance of an inmate sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment, attempted to deliver the banned item during a short-term visit. During a routine inspection of food items, officers discovered a REDMI mobile phone concealed inside a loaf of bread. The device was immediately confiscated.

According to Samat Omarov, an officer of the facility’s security department, attempts to smuggle prohibited items into correctional institutions remain an ongoing concern.

“All items intended for inmates are subject to strict screening procedures, including X-ray examination. Nevertheless, some individuals continue to attempt to smuggle in restricted items. Ignorance of the law does not exempt one from responsibility. We carry out daily outreach efforts with the relatives of inmates to raise awareness,” he stated.

An administrative protocol has been drawn up under Article 481 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the case materials are being prepared for submission to the court.

Since the beginning of the year, correctional institutions in the Kyzylorda Region have recorded seven attempts to smuggle prohibited items, including mobile phones. All incidents were detected in a timely manner, and appropriate legal measures have been taken in each case.
