On February 8, 2017, Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Hellenic Republic Alexey Volkov met with the Prosecutor General of the Supreme court of the Hellenic Republic, MS Xeni Dimitriou-Vasilopoulou.
During the meeting the parties discussed the issue of signing a Memorandum of understanding between the General Prosecutor's office of Kazakhstan and the General Prosecutor of the Supreme court GR.
The Ambassador informed K. Dimitriou-Vasilopoulou that since gaining independence in 1991, Kazakhstan has concluded more than 46 bilateral agreements in the field of criminal justice with European countries, as well as the United States, China, India and Canada.
A. Volkov also reported on the agreement on expanded partnership and cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union signed in 2015, which forms the legal basis of relations between Kazakhstan and the EU, noting that Kazakhstan became the first post-Soviet country to sign an agreement of this format with the EU. The Ambassador noted that this document has now been ratified by the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as by several European countries, and is undergoing an accelerated approval procedure by the Greek Parliament.
Due to the fact that one of the main areas of cooperation under this Agreement is justice, migration issues, the fight against terrorism, organized crime and corruption, as well as taking into account the need to strengthen the bilateral legal framework, the Ambassador invited the Prosecutor General of Greece to visit Astana in the near future to sign an interdepartmental agreement on mutual understanding and hold talks with Kazakh colleagues.
Agreeing with the view that the conclusion of such agreements is the basis for the strengthening of bilateral relations and mutually beneficial cooperation, Mrs. K. Dimitriou-Vasilopoulou reported about the readiness of the Greek side to sign a Memorandum of understanding between the General Prosecutor's office of Kazakhstan and the General Prosecutor of the Supreme court G in the course of the visit to Astana.
