About the regional training on counter-terrorism (Astana, February 28, 2017)

Today, a regional training on counter-terrorism for law enforcement officers and authorized bodies of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan began its work as part of the creation of a Regional hub for countering global threats.

The three-day training is dedicated to topical issues of countering terrorism, studying the psychology of terrorist fighters, as well as the specifics of the negotiation process with terrorists. Experts are leading foreign and Kazakh specialists.

The training was organized by the Academy of law enforcement agencies with the support of the UN Office on drugs and crime, as well as the National defense University named after the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – the Leader of the Nation, in the building where the training takes place.

Opened the courses of the acting first Vice-rector of the Academy Nail Ahmetzianov. Representatives addressed the audience with welcoming words The United Nations office on drugs and crime, and The OSCE program office in Astana.

Noting the significance of the event, N. Akhmetzakirov stressed the need for close cooperation and systematic work of the authorized bodies to combat terrorism. "An important condition for effective counteraction to this global threat is a well-established system of preventive and legal measures. This task requires a focused study of the psychology of the "terrorist fighter", as well as regular exchange of relevant information in this area between law enforcement agencies of different countries. This requires a permanent platform where knowledge and skills about counter-terrorism methods are spread, taking into account national and international experience, " the speaker said.

Such a dialogue platform is intended to become a Regional hub for countering global threats. This will be an international research and training center for training specialists in the operational services of Central Asian countries, created on the Basis of the Academy of law enforcement agencies.

Thus, the Academy intends to contribute to the effective use of the scientific and educational sphere in the fight against global threats. The potential of the international expert community will serve as an effective tool for preventing modern challenges and developing a common strategy for ensuring regional security.
