The staff of the Prosecutor General's Office and the National Security Council of Interpol, with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, extradited a citizen of Kazakhstan from Sweden to face criminal charges for the theft of funds on an especially large scale.
In 2018, an attacker, taking advantage of system errors in the mobile application of one of the second-tier banks, made imaginary transfers to amounts exceeding the current account balance of his bank card.
As a result, the bank suffered damage in the amount of 55 million tenge.
After committing the crime, the suspect fled, and was put on the international wanted list.
This year, he was detained in the Kingdom of Sweden and extradited to his homeland at the request of the General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan.
Currently, the suspect has been placed in a pre-trial detention center.
For the commission of the crime he is charged with, the penalty is imprisonment for a period of five to ten years with confiscation of property.
It should be noted that despite the absence of an extradition treaty with Sweden, 4 persons have been extradited from this country to Kazakhstan since 2023, including for counterfeiting and fraud.
