In the homeland of the outstanding Kazakh poet, the village of Toraygyr, Bayanaul District, they established an ethnoaul of 27 yurts and arranged a national holiday.

Right in the yurt town they installed the swing of the alty-bakan, arranged festive trade and organized competitions in Kazakh national sports togyz-kumalak and Kazakh fight. Among those who decided to spend the weekend in Bayanaul mountains were not only residents of Irtysh Land.

“Friends told us about the upcoming folk festivities, and we decided to come here without thinking,” – said the resident of Karaganda Oblast, Kairbek Zholamanov. – “I liked everything very much, my sons enjoyed walking in the mountains, bathed in the lake. I think Sultanmakhmut Toraigyrov is not just a poet, he is an outstanding son of the Kazakh people. It is gratifying that in the homeland of this great man his heritage is preserved and the memory of him is honoured.”

Everyone was treated to baursaks and koumiss. An ethnographer Aygerim Musagazhinova, who has revived the recipe of more than 50 forgotten Kazakh national dishes, also tried Pavlodar delicacies. According to her, Kazakh cuisine is not only beshbarmak and baursaks.

“It is very diverse,” – says a researcher at the Halyk Kazynasy, research centre. – “Every recipe that was restored by us has its own meaning. For example, there are dishes that were prepared and consumed only in the company of men. Other dishes symbolize intra-family ties, for example, between mother and daughter, between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law and so on.”

The opening of a bust of the honourable inhabitant of Bayanaul District, Kabiden Aubakirov, was also timed to the 125th anniversary of Sultanmakhmut Toraigyrov. In his day he headed the village for almost 20 years and succeeded in having the settlement be named after the great akyn.
“Few people know that under Kabiden Aubakirov in Bayanaul District, 34 sheep breeding farms were opened, it was he who paved the way from Toraigyr to the District centre,” – the Akim of Pavlodar Oblast Bulat Bakauov mentioned in his speech. -“Therefore, we must cherish the memory of our outstanding countrymen, such as Kabiden Aubakirov, and pass it on to future generations.”

In honour of the anniversary of the famous Kazakh poet in Bayanaul District, a 30-kilometre double-track race was organized. More than 100 people came to its start. Each of them was to overcome 5 kilometres cross-country and 25 kilometres on bicycles. Everyone who reached the finish line was congratulated by the well-known Ekibastuz marathon runner Marat Zhylanbaev who, less than 30 years old, trained himself in Bayanaul when he was preparing for the race to Elbrus.
“It’s good that in our country they began to pay attention to the development of mass sports, especially running,” – said Marat Zhylanbayev. -“It should be considered that running is the most accessible sport. No wonder the ancient Greeks said: if want to be healthy, run. And running in the fresh air, among the mountains is doubly useful and pleasant.”

In addition, on the eve of the celebration of the anniversary of Sultanmakhmut Toraigyrov, a competition of poets was held, which presented their works dedicated to the poet. The winners of this competition were determined as a result of online voting and announced from the main stage in ethnoaul. Grand Prix was won by Rauan Kabidoldin from East Kazakhstan. The first place was left forBatyrkhan Sarsenkhan from Shymkent. The second place was shared by Karlygash Kabai and Untyl Zarykkanuly from Astana. The third place went to three nominees – Aidana Maisarbekkyzy from Almaty, Kairat Seitkazin from Kokshetau and Zharkynbek Amantai from Pavlodar.
