The Stalinist repressions touched about four million civilians in Kazakhstan, among whom were even children. In memory of the victims of that time, flowers were laid at the memorial in Pavlodar.
“Today we remember those whose lives were tragically cut short in those early years,” said the head of the region, Bulat Bakauov. – In March 1944, more than 40 thousand immigrants from the North Caucasus were deported to Pavlodar region, and by the will of fate, the generous Kazakh land sheltered everyone.
“During the time of repression, our people were subjected to this terrible persecution in the history of mankind,” said Yusup Merzhoyev, chairman of the Chechen-Ingush ethnocultural association’s Council of Elders. – A large number of people died because of cold, hunger and disease, and the rest of the civilian population was doomed to ruin, if not the Kazakh people. The nobility of the Kazakh people is incurable.
Note that for the period from 1918 to 1987, if you believe the surviving documents, the security authorities arrested more than 7 million people. However, it is estimated by historians that this figure actually exceeds 40 million.
