TURKESTAN: MOUNTAIN PISTACHIO RIPENS IN THE TYULKUBAS DISTRICT
Tyulkubas district is distinguished not only by its amazing nature, but also by a variety of fruit and berry plants. The area, which is part of the Sairam-Ugam National Nature Park, has one of the main features. Pistachio bushes grow in the picturesque Mashat mountain gorge.
The very miracle of pistachio growth in the spring. In this season, when the mountain pistachio blooms, its aroma gently spreads throughout the area. Pistachios, like a nut, grow on an ordinary prickly bush. According to experts, you can get about two to three kilograms of pistachios from one bush. From the end of August to the middle of September, pistachios fully ripen. Unlike pistachios that grow in the countries of Central Asia, Tulkubas have smaller sizes. However, the composition of the fruits themselves is twice as fat, also much healthier and more fertile.
It is very difficult to grow mountain pistachios from seedlings. Seedlings of males and females should be planted in one place, experts say. And even if they start to grow, they begin to give the first fruits in almost 30 years. Our ancestors referred this type of bush pistachios to the number of sacred trees. According to local residents, earlier in times of famine, people used mountain pistachios as food. And during the war, among the dense pistachio trees, soldiers could hide from enemies, people say.
