Elvira Azimova proposed to revise the age of teaching the basics of human rights in schools

At the plenary session of the Republican August meeting of teachers and employees of education and science, the Commissioner for human rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan Elvira Azimova proposed to review the age of teaching the subject of human rights in schools.

"From the very beginning of the meeting, it was said that it is necessary to pay attention to the issue of social welfare in the education process. I would like to note that today the overall trend of education development is changing. If we used to talk more about classical education, now we are raising the issue of integrating human values and citizenship. From this point of view, children and young people have a great need to learn not just about human values and self-knowledge, but also about the basics of law. In this regard, I think it is necessary to review the age at which the basics of human rights begin to be taught in schools, " the Commissioner for human rights in Kazakhstan suggested.

According to her, the current situation shows that the basics of law should be taught in schools not only from the point of view of statehood, structure, construction, powers, but also from the point of view of how to protect yourself.

"Unfortunately, they are also related to issues of family well-being, active participation of the child in public events, and access to the environment. Therefore, we see that adaptation skills in society, especially among children and graduates of children's social institutions, are quite low. As a result, this leads to the fact that children simply do not know about their rights," said Elvira Azimova.

She also believes that it is necessary to pay attention to the status of social educators and psychologists, because the importance of social workers in the field of education is quite large.

"The third point concerns medical and social institutions and children's social institutions in general. I would like to draw your attention to the urgency of resolving issues of legal status and clearly defining the structure of children's social institutions and medical and social institutions. We see that there is a gap in administrative and organizational terms. For example, an adaptation Center for minors. In some regions, their functions have been transferred to a center for children in difficult situations, and in some regions, adaptation Centers have not even been established. Therefore, in this context, I would like to draw attention to the issues of the status of social teachers and social psychologists. The need for social workers in the field of education is quite large. Questions of competence, professionalism and lack of local presence are proved by recent events in the Ayagoz medical and social institution, in the children's home No. 1. Therefore, we would like to ensure that these issues are not overlooked, " she concluded.
