New UN report shows countries failing to protect children against violence

Violence against a child at home or on the street, at school or in any other children's institution, on a social network - crimes for which there is no justification. Violence not only poses a direct threat to the life and health of a child, it has a devastating impact on the future of society and the state. Abuse is often hidden.  The level of development of the state is always assessed through the attitude to children, women, the elderly and people with disabilities. It is not enough to pass good laws and punish the guilty. Society and every citizen must be intolerant of any form of violence.  Only by joining forces can we achieve a safe society for our children.

The COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the need to combat domestic violence and protect children's rights and join forces.

On June 18, 2020, the world health organization (WHO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), UNESCO, the Special representative of the UN Secretary – General on violence against children and the Global partnership to eliminate violence against children published a new report-the Global report on the situation with the prevention of violence against children, 2020. The report presents progress made in 155 countries, including Kazakhstan, under the «INSPIRE» programme, a set of seven strategies to prevent and respond to violence against children. At the same time, the report's conclusions indicate the need to strengthen this policy in all countries.
