Commissioner for Human Rights Artur Lastaev met with OSCE ODIHR Director Matteo Mecacci

 

Within the framework of the Warsaw Conference on the Human Dimension in Poland from October 2 to 13, 2023, chaired by Northern Macedonia with the support of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Ombudsman A. Lastaev held meeting with the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Matteo Mecacci.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the possibilities of further intensification  bilateral cooperation, as well as issues related to human rights issues. Special attention was paid to the relevance and importance of the issues raised during the plenary session "Rule of Law I: Democratic law-making, Independence of the judiciary, Right to a fair trial", held on October 9 this year.

Matteo Mecacci highly appreciated the work carried out by the Commissioner in the field of human rights protection in Kazakhstan, and also expressed support for the reforms carried out in the country and readiness to assist in their implementation.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue active cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
