Announcement of the upcoming visit of the Commissioner for Human Rights to Almaty on April 19-21, 2023

On April 19-21 of this year there will be a working visit of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Artur Lastayev, to Almaty.

During the official visit on April 19 Ombudsman of Kazakhstan Artur Lastayev together with a representative of the Commissioner for Almaty K. Maldybaev will meet with representatives of the Akimat, the city prosecutor B. Zhuiriktayev, heads of the police department A. Zapparov and Department of Correctional System A. Kayyrbekov.
On the same day Lastayev will have a working meeting with Commissioner for Children's Rights in the RK A. Sayin, at which it is expected to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation.

It is also expected that A. Lastayev will visit institution #11 of the juvenile correctional facility in Almaty, where he will personally visit juvenile convicts.

On April 21, the Ombudsman will discuss with the participants of the National Preventive Mechanism the plan for further action to strengthen the work on the proper legal protection of prisoners, including psychological, educational and medical support services and prevention of torture.

In addition, the Commissioner is planning to hold a meeting with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Almaty on legal education in the sphere of human rights and freedoms, the need to increase the level of coordination and support for human rights organizations, the prospects for cooperation in developing educational programs and improving the level of public education, creating a holistic system of legal education, including primarily the youth population of Almaty.

On the agenda - visit of A. Lastayev to the KGU «Crisis Center Zhan-Say», meeting with the head of OYL «Union of Crisis Centers» Z. Baisakova. Also, reception of persons in difficult life situations.
